Wooden Gate Installation
Fence Max Texas builds and installs custom wood gates throughout Dallas–Fort Worth. Each gate is hand-built to the opening, with design options including solid or see-through inserts, pediment and arched tops, corbels, decorative trim and heavy-duty hardware sized for the weight of the gate.
Fence Max Texas specializes in the installation of a wide variety of wood gates. A gate is the one part of a fence people touch every day, so it is built differently from the runs beside it — heavier framing, better hardware and hinges sized for the load.
Exceptional craftsmanship in design and detail gives your entry a secure and beautiful introduction. You can quickly add to the beauty, charm and value of your home with a uniquely designed, hand-built wood gate.
Ask any real estate agent and they will tell you that the outside appearance of your house contributes meaningfully to its value. A specially designed wooden gate is one of the fastest ways to improve curb appeal.
Why it works here
Built for North Texas
Built to the opening
Gates are fabricated to your measured opening rather than trimmed down from a stock panel, so they hang square and stay square.
Hardware sized to the gate
Heavy-duty hinges, drop rods and latches chosen for the weight and swing of your specific gate.
Designs that match the fence
Pediment tops, arches, corbels, trim and see-through inserts can carry the same detailing as the surrounding fence — or intentionally stand apart.
Anti-sag construction
Diagonal bracing and correctly set posts keep the gate from dragging as the wood and soil move through the seasons.

Texas weather
Gates take the worst of Texas weather because they move. Summer heat dries and shrinks the frame, spring rain swells it, and clay soil shifts the post it hangs from. We use bracing and hardware that tolerate that movement, and we set gate posts deeper and in more concrete than line posts.
Maintenance
Check hinge bolts and latch alignment twice a year and tighten as needed. Keep the gate stained on all sides, including the top and bottom edges, which is where water gets in. If the gate begins to drag, it is usually a hinge or post issue that is inexpensive to correct early.
FAQ
Common questions
- How wide can a wood gate be?
- Single gates are typically kept to a width that hardware and framing can carry without sagging. Wider openings are built as double gates or on a steel frame. We size the design to the opening during the site visit.
- Can a wood gate be automated?
- Yes. Wood driveway gates are commonly built on a steel frame so they can carry an automatic opener. We build both the gate and the automation.
- Why do gates sag?
- Usually undersized hardware, no diagonal bracing, or a gate post that was not set deep enough for our clay soils. All three are prevented at build time.
- Can you match my existing fence?
- In most cases, yes. Bring us photos or let us see the fence during the site visit and we will match picket layout, cap and trim as closely as the existing material allows.
- Do you build gates for pool enclosures?
- Yes, and pool gates have specific self-closing and latch-height requirements. Tell us the gate is on a pool enclosure so it is built to comply.
