Stone Paving & Paver Installation

Fence Max Texas installs paving stone driveways and patios across Dallas–Fort Worth. Paving stones are tested in excess of 8,000 PSI compared to roughly 2,000 PSI for concrete, are set in a flexible sand base that tolerates expansion and contraction, and can be individually replaced.

If you are looking to replace a dirt, concrete or asphalt driveway or patio, paving stones are today's answer. Our Dallas stone pavers bring the extra push that makes a home stand out.

Most people do not realize that paving stones are several times stronger than concrete. Concrete is hard and brittle and prone to cracking, and it cannot be repaired without leaving scar marks. Where concrete is typically tested to withstand 2,000 PSI, paving stones are tested in excess of 8,000 PSI.

Paving stones are set in a friction base sand mixture, so they do not move around but remain flexible. That flexibility means hot and cold weather expansion and contraction have no ill effect on the installation. Individual stones can be lifted and replaced should the need ever arise. Most importantly, paving stones add beauty and value. There are so many types, colors, textures, shapes, sizes, patterns and designs that they can enhance the look of any home or building.

Why it works here

Built for North Texas

Far stronger than concrete

Paving stones are tested in excess of 8,000 PSI, compared with roughly 2,000 PSI for typical concrete.

Flexible base, no cracking

A friction sand base lets the surface move with seasonal expansion and contraction instead of cracking across it.

Individually repairable

A damaged stone can be lifted and replaced without leaving the scar marks a concrete patch leaves behind.

Design range

Colors, textures, shapes, sizes and laying patterns can be matched to the architecture of the home.

Materials & options

  • Interlocking concrete pavers
  • Natural stone
  • Permeable paving systems
  • Herringbone, running bond and basketweave patterns
  • Contrasting borders and banding
  • Retaining wall block
  • Steps and landings
  • Polymeric joint sand

What affects cost

  • Total square footage
  • Paver style, size and quality
  • Pattern complexity and borders
  • Demolition and removal of existing concrete or asphalt
  • Base depth required — driveways need more than patios
  • Drainage and grading work
  • Steps, walls and edge restraints
  • Site access for material and equipment

Texas weather

North Texas clay expands and contracts dramatically between a wet spring and a dry August, which is exactly what cracks a rigid concrete slab. A flexible, properly compacted paver base absorbs that movement. Base preparation and drainage — not the stone itself — determine whether a paver installation still looks right in ten years.

Maintenance

Sweep and rinse periodically, top up joint sand every few years, and re-seal if the installation was sealed originally. Weeds in the joints indicate the joint sand needs attention. Individual stained or damaged stones can simply be swapped out.

FAQ

Common questions

Are pavers really stronger than concrete?
By the standard measure, yes. Paving stones are tested in excess of 8,000 PSI while concrete is typically tested to around 2,000 PSI. The bigger practical advantage is that pavers flex with soil movement instead of cracking.
Will weeds grow between the stones?
Properly compacted joint sand and periodic maintenance keep this minimal. Polymeric sand hardens in the joints and resists both weeds and washout.
Can pavers go over my existing concrete?
Sometimes, if the slab is sound and heights work out at doors and thresholds. Often the better long-term result comes from removing it and building a proper base.
Do paver driveways handle vehicle weight?
Yes, when the base is built for it. A driveway requires a deeper compacted base than a patio, which is why base depth is quoted separately.
How long does an installation take?
It depends on square footage, demolition and base work. Your project manager provides the schedule for your specific project in writing.
